So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star. A Hard Day’s Night. Can’t Explain. Mr Tambourine Man. You Can’t Do That. Anytime At All.
Yes this is indeed the guitar that helped to define the taste of a generation and remains – at least to these ears – the single most distinctive instrument in the whole of the pop and rock cannon. George may well have considered it a secret weapon for The Fabs – and the only 12 string he could change a string on when drunk – but this guitar took pop music from folk, through pop, into psychedelia and back out again into the glare of new wave and post punk. These wonderful guitars are as aspirational (and inspirational) now as they were then – and if you can find one in the UK these days you will be doing well. The waiting list is growing.
Our 360/12 is well into her fifth decade, 44 years of age and showing no sign of slowing down. A first generation 360/12, sobering to think that she was built when the model had been around for less than a decade. But it shows. This is a vintage instrument which delivers a truly jaw dropping period sound. Guitars get used to being played – and you simply cannot replicate the incredible unique sound and tones you will obtain from these 5 decades old natural wood. This wonderful Rick has been breathing and resonating for longer than many of us have walked the planet.
A vintage instrument, she has one or two minor imperfections and grazes as you would expect from a working instrument well into her fifth decade. But, as you can see from the images, she is in remarkably good condition and plays beautifully.
The trade off of course is, despite the odd mark, you also have the lovely look that only comes as the guitar matures. The ageing of the wood ensures that deep rich, warm hollow body sound that makes these vintage guitars so sought after. This incredible resonance – which only comes with the passing of time - means that you can have the cool looks and the sound. You don’t need to compromise on either.
These Rickenbackers are extremely hard to find in this age and in this condition.
The guitar comes with a rectangular hard case which has been with the guitar since the 1970s. It has its own charm and character. The case is well gigged but is decent enough and does the job. This gorgeous classic, with the 5 decades old DNA to match, is a lovely example of an iconic instrument with a character and history that is unique to its wood and its frets. Remember, this is a 44 years old made in USA guitar.
She has been painstakingly set up ready for sale by guitar guru Simon Bamber in Bristol.
