This is an original and iconic Rickenbacker 325V59 – and you will recognize it as the model designed to replicate the 1958 Rickenbacker 325 that John Lennon played in the Beatles early Fab Four days and which he had adapted with a Bigsby tailpiece. This is an incredible recreation of the guitar you can see in so many of the early Beatles live shots.
Remember, it was the Mapleglo (natural wood ) guitar that you can see Lennon playing in Hamburg, not the black version, and it is only this Mapleglo finish that shows off the lovely ageing of the wood commensurate with a guitar well into its fourth decade.
She has a 21 inch scale and is incredibly easy to play. The curves of her body and the head shape are as true to the original as is possible. The gold on brown knobs, the gold pickguard and nameplate, the vintage pickups all go to make this guitar look drop dead gorgeous and terminally cool.
A fantastic guitar, this guitar has its roots at the very birth of UK rock and pop. And this beauty is from 1984 – that’s right, it’s not a later reissue. This guitar is far closer to 1958 than we are to 1984 today.
The build quality is superb as you would expect. The waiting list for a reproduction is getting on for 2 years – but they don’t make these originals anymore.
Our 325 is well into her fourth decade. This is a vintage instrument which delivers a wonderful period sound. Guitars get used to being played – and you simply cannot replicate the incredible unique sound and tones you will obtain from the mature wood. This wonderful Rick feels and sounds just incredible.
A vintage instrument, she has one or two minor imperfections and grazes as you would expect from a working instrument well into her fourth decade. But, as you can see from the images, she is in remarkably good condition and plays beautifully. There is some mottling under the pickguard and at the headstock logo but – and we would say this wouldn’t we – it just adds to the cool look.
These Rickenbackers are extremely hard to find in this age and in this condition.
The guitar comes with its original Rickenbacker hard fitted shell case. This gorgeous classic has been painstakingly set up ready for sale by guitar guru Simon Bamber in Bristol.
